Style Thief: Colton Haynes

Style Thief: Colton Haynes

This new segment of the blog is called the ‘Style Thief’. It is my view on the style of a particular male celebrity, artist or other well-known figure. Others might call it a style file, but the people of interest I choose have a style or certain looks I want to steal. And that would make me the Style Thief. To kick off this tag I chose actor Colton Haynes.

You may know Colton for his role in MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’ or even more so as hooded vigilante Roy Harper a.k.a. Arsenal in the CW series ‘Arrow’. Haynes’ name also popped up everywhere this May after him coming out in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Not that any of that is important now, because I like Colton Haynes for his sense of style, but maybe even more for his personality. His personality you’ll have to experience yourself by following him on Instagram or watching interviews with his fellow colleagues of Arrow (him and Emily Bett are serious friendship goals). Because we’re here to discuss style.

He rocks all kinds of suits

First, the red carpet looks. While a lot of celebrities tend to wear the same style of tailoring over and over again, Colton decides to leave that bandwagon pass by. He wears a white blazer with broad lapels one time and the next he steals the spotlight sporting a head-to-toe (actually ankle) flamingo-pink look. He is also in on trying different fabrics and mixing them up with more out-of-the-box items. The classic, yet modern-cut suit on the left is worn with a pair of chunky monkstraps. Not a very much used set-up for a red carpet look, but apparently that’s not Haynes’ typical style anyway.

No Fashion Week faux pas

As an inspirational millenial with more than 5 million Instagram followers you get invited to quite some parties and fashion events. And so it happens with Colton as well. For instance, during New York Fashion Week. He certainly knows how to dress for the occassion, wearing outfits that belong on the runway instead of on the first row. Or does it? Either way, he looks smashing every time and his secret? Well, I think the key is sporting a mean, striking jacket. Because, I don’t know about you, but I can’t get my eyes off of that blue leather Moschino jacket.

Serious jacket game

Colton also knows when to let the jacket do the talking. He understands the function of a showpiece. And he also hits all the buttons of styling the suit jacket with more basic bottoms and sharp-looking footwear. I mean, not everyone could pull off a sequin dinnerjacket or match a preppy blazer with classic blue jeans.

No casual corner

And than of course, there is a more at-ease side of Colton Haynes’ style. And even that still looks interesting all the time. He flaunts flaired jeans better than you’re typical blonde long-legged girlfriend and he handles the hole-in-knee jeans well. Let’s not forget that Mr. Haynes launched his own line of clothing too. No wonder it’s so easy for him to get together a proper casual look.
