Now we are slipping into much cooler days, it might be a good idea to consider updating your winter wardrobe with these essentials.
Personally, I believe in a uni-season collection of essentials on which you base your looks. Adding colourful items, striking shoes and a few showpieces results in your style. But what if you don’t know what to buy this winter? Maybe these items help you along to get that winter wardrobe.
A crisp white shirt
This item is an easy one. Not just for winter, but for every season you should have this classic as part of your wardrobe. Whether you wear it with a suit, under a sweater or cardigan or with a leather jacket, you’re good to go by choosing a white shirt anytime. And you get to choose from a lot: you could go for traditional, use details like collarless or pockets or pick a subtle print.
A crew neck jumper
Crew neck jumpers are casual, warm and modern. You could brighten the gloomy days of winter with a splash of colour or hide away in white, grey or dark blue. Sporting a shirt underneath makes your look office-proof, which is a lot more comfortable than a suit if you ask me.
Classic blue jeans
My favourite bottoms of all time: blue jeans. The Netherlands is considered a denim-country, so in that perspective I’m a typical Dutchman. Different washes and various fits to choose from; this is just a trial and error. After years of wearing jeans, I have found my own best fit and wash to get through the winter in comfy bottoms.
Admitted, this is an item I don’t have yet either. This lumberjack-esque piece was introduced last year on the runway. Now the street retailers have adopted this item as well and it’s warm like a piece of outerwear should be. A shirt, a pair of jeans, boots and this jacket are the ingredients for a great winter look.
My favourite shoes for winter: chelsea boots. Easy to wear, good for a freezing day around town and stylish nonetheless. I prefer suede, but some brands design great smooth leather boots. Black is save and always good, but brown or stone adds something extra to the mix, especially if the rest of your outfit is in darker shades.
And if you’re looking for a topcoat this winter, you should check out this post. Enjoy your week!
