Valentine’s Day: A Last Minute Look

Valentine's Day: A Last Minute Look

The roses, the heart-shaped boxes filled with chocolates and the pinkish hues of balloons in restaurants and gift shops. Tomorrow it’s Valentine’s Day. And for the male lovebirds who don’t know what to wear spending that day with their better half, I’ve selected two rush-out looks to assure a successful evening (dress-wise).

So while you’re stressing out over that one look that should remind your date why he or she loves you, I’ve been embracing the fact that for another year I don’t have to. I’m not worrying if the restaurant will be good enough, if my roses are the right ones and if he likes milk or dark chocolate. I’ll be here, on my couch, reading a book or watching another episode of How to Get Away with Murder. But at least, I’ve been so gallant to help you in these two common Valentine situations.

First Date

Jacket: Weekday / Cardholder: Hugo Boss / Trousers: Selected Homme / Trainers ‘Achilles’: Common Projects via END Clothing / Sweater: COS / Watch: Skagen via De Bijenkorf

This is the first time of going out with your potential ‘one’. To show the best of yourself, you think you need to look the best you can. Of course you should, but don’t overdo it. You should be comfortable and at ease while being around your date. And so should the clothing around your maybe-sweating body be. I love a good jumper that’s fitted, but leaves room for you to breathe. Trousers fit a nice evening out, but don’t look too stiff by pairing them with fresh coloured trainers. Leave the crazy colours for your details, and make the overall image look calm (unlike yourself, maybe?). So pop a colour in your accessories, but keep it at that.

Rekindle the Flame

Pink knitted tie: River Island / Double-breasted blazer: Topman / Shirt: H&M / Jeans ‘Skim’: Scotch & Soda / Monkstraps: SuitSupply

You two have been dating for a long time now, you’re maybe married even and you want to do something special on this day of Love. Bring back the excitement in your relationship by going all out and look like you’ve been really thinking about your outfit. Because your partner will love the fact that you’ve done your best for their sake too. But because I personally don’t see that Valentine’s Day is a day for full-blown eveningwear, you should casualise it with a fitted jeans in a light wash. Roll up the legs of your trousers just a bit, to show off your shiny monkstraps.

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day!
